Student Series is an exciting day of activities designed specifically for Interior Design and Architecture students. NeoCon® East is your chance to network, learn and gain real-world exposure to the professional world of design.

Entering the Design World – How to Integrate Creative Design, Passion, and Branding to Break Through
Founders of the up-and-coming furniture studio Hellman-Chang, Daniel Hellman and Eric Chang discuss how they started out in the design industry three years ago, and went from no-name hobbyists to an award-winning luxury brand. The two young designers will share their startup story, pitfalls, insights, and how to find success in design during a global recession; presentation followed by a Q&A. The self-taught designers distribute their line through designer showrooms nationwide, and have designed pieces for major projects including the Four Seasons Hotel, Setai Hotel, Sotheby’s, and the sets of Gossip Girl and Sex and the City 2.

Career Exchange & Portfolio Review
10:30 a.m.–Noon
A great networking opportunity for students with leading architecture and design firms, as well as manufacturers. Representatives will be on hand to offer information about their companies and answer questions about careers in the industry. Need advice on how to improve your resume and/or portfolio? ASID designer members will be present to lend you their expertise. Don’t miss this valuable chance to connect one-on-one with top professionals in the industry!

10 Things to Know When You Go to Work

Hmmmmm… Join Ken Wilson, FAIA, FIIDA, LEED AP and partner Diana Horvat, AIA, IIDA, LEED AP, principals of Envision Design of DC for a lighthearted, content rich, advice packed seminar on what to expect and how to manage the early stages of your career. Sharing insight of their own careers, managing a design firm, and defining a niche, Ken and Diana will help you direct your own path for the future.
